Yes, it is absolutely crazy. As you read this I am in Africa.
Of course I am not writing this live. I wrote this between packing for myself, sketching out a master plan for my kids care and folding about a million loads of laundry.
Cause this is what we do as entrepreneurs.
But is it? Now if I am being totally honest... in the past I would have assumed you all knew I was gone and let that be reason enough to take a week off from my blog + podcast.
This is called laziness people.
I sat here feeling a bit out of sorts in doing that, and let me share why. It would go against everything I have really ever said. Last week I dedicated an entire day to consistency (if you missed it, you can still listen here). So a week later it would be absurd for me to let my 8 month streak of blogging + podcasting go down the drain just cause of a mini little thing like being 8,453 miles away from my home and office.
Okay, so I am being a little cheeky here, but I really just want to drive the point home.
Staying in contact with your people is important.
The more consistent we are, the larger our open rate and the less opt-outs we get. No joking here. We just went through our stats again to be sure and it still holds true.
When people join your list, they want to hear from you. This should not be so hard for us to figure out but it is. We think we are bugging people, that they get too much email... but every single week I get an email that says something like 'I so needed to hear this today, thank you Tena!' or 'Wow, please don't stop what you do... I love your podcast!'
Before I started being consistent I didn't get these emails. I got opt-outs and spam notifications.
Ick.
So if you are struggling to stay consistent, stop. I mean start. Start being consistent.
If you want to watch my journey to Africa and back you can check out #MissionDRC on just about any social platform. Yes, they have internet in the Congo... just intermittent electricity and very little running water. #PrayForMe
Next week you are going to hear from the fabulous Angie Weber. Sometimes to stay consistent you have to pull in troops and ask for help.
