Listen Later

Sam Bellamy: This is a followup from last week's question. interviewed with at a company where I've applied to 2 different positions. I have been rejected from the first position, but I *felt* the interview went well, (although I guess its hard to know). Can I write an email that leverages the perceived goodwill towards the other position?

  • Approach the situation with the mindset of finding an opportunity where you can be useful and provide value rather than being opportunistic and ruthless in finding a gig.
  • See what role you are really a better fit based on your experience, skills, abilities and knowledge.
  • Make it about them. Authentically show why you are a better fit for the other role based on the value that you bring that is in alignment with their goals.
  • Follow-up with the appreciation for what they shared in the meeting and ask out of curiosity if you could be valuable on the other editor role based on your interview.
  • Missed opportunities could lead to something larger if you’re thinking chess, not checkers.
