🔥[04-30] How to answer “what’s your process?” without spilling your entire workflow over coffee

Listen Later

Jill Calhoun: I want to know how to answer the question “what is your process?” in a way that provides the most value to the questioner in an interview, even if the “answer” is actually asking them a question. Or do they actually truly want the step by step of how I do my job?

  • Reframe “what’s your process” into what they are actually asking about results, collaboration, and solving their problems instead of step by step workflow details.
  • Tell a big picture story of how you approach story, people, and outcomes so they see how you think.
  • Translate your process based on who is asking so each answer reflects their needs, priorities, and part of the workflow.
  • Emphasize collaboration style and human skills because everyone already has hard skills and they are choosing how it feels to work with you.
  • Treat informal coffees like job interviews because they often are and reveal who you are without the polished version. Assume you are being evaluated for advocacy and referrals.
