A Clockwork Heart | Steampunk Musical

04. I'm Alive - Instrumental

Listen Later

I’m Alive (Instrumental) is the breath held at the heart of A Clockwork Heart.

In this pivotal song, Rose opens her eyes for the very first time. Gears turn, pistons throb, and a clockwork voice asks the most human of questions. Who am I. What am I. Am I real.

As Florence winds the key and watches her creation stir, wonder and fear intertwine. Rose dances on unsteady feet, marvelling at her own movement, her ticking heart, and the strange new world unfolding before her. Yet beneath the joy lies doubt. Is she a puppet, a plaything, a beautiful object made to be admired and controlled.

Through gentle melodies and swelling emotion, I’m Alive captures the fragile instant where creation becomes consciousness. It is a song about awakening, identity, and the terrifying miracle of being alive at all.

This episode explores the moment where fantasy tips into reality, and where Florence is forced to confront the truth of what she has made. Not a toy. Not a prize. But someone who can feel, question, and choose.

“You’re real,” Florence whispers.

And everything changes.

I’M ALIVE

(Florence grabs the key and winds Rose) (Rose starts to tick)

Verse 1 (Rose)

Wind the key and open my eyes,

The cogs turn, my first sunrise,

Here’s my voice,

What is my name?

Who are you?

Is this a game?

Verse 2 (Rose)

Eyes of glass and now I see,

A world that waits in front of me,

Pistons throb,

Gears interlock,

Spark of life,

Just wind my clock

Chorus (Rose)

Am I a puppet,

Or am I a plaything?

Can you hear my clockwork heart?

Am I just a piece of art?

(Florance takes Rose’s hand and they dance gently)

Verse 3 (Rose)

Look at me dance, the perfect prize,

A steam powered girl,

I’m alive! Hear me tick,

A haunting chime,

My heart’s beating,

For the first time.

Verse 4 (Rose)

Born at midnight in a dark storm,

I dream in brass and piston form,

Hold my hand,

Teach me to dance,

I’ll be yours,

Give me a chance.

Bridge (Florence)

Porcelain girl,

With a painted smile,

You’re my secret,

My heart knows…

My Rose…

Chorus (Rose)

Am I a puppet,

Or am I a plaything?

Can you hear my clockwork heart?

Am I just a piece of art?

Chorus (Rose)

Am I a puppet,

Or am I a plaything?

Can you hear my clockwork heart?

Chorus

Rose: Am I a puppet?

Florence: You’re not a puppet.

Rose: Can you hear my, clockwork heart?

Florence: I can hear your clockwork heart

Florence: You’re so much more than piece of art.

(As the final chorus fades, Rose is standing, breathing, smiling)

(Florence slowly walks over and takes Rose’s hands)

FLORENCE

You’re real. You’re finally real.
