My today's guest is Vanessa Paisley. We spoke about her experience as a solo expat, blaming the "other culture" if unhappy, how to be happy in your own skin, finding home within, and also about pressure to look as if you are having a good time even when you don't!

Vanessa Paisley is a trainer and lecturer in English language, cross-cultural and intercultural communication.

She was born in Tanzania, grew up in the UK, lived and worked in Austria for 23 years. She went on her year abroad solo in 1989 to Vienna as a student of German. There were many challenges such as nowhere to live, no mobile phones and many others. She learned how to be on her own and found out that I loved it!

Now back in the UK, Vanessa's expertise lies in relocating individuals from one country to another where she helps international assignees and their families transition.

Vanessa is a keen advocate of speaking plain English and promoting clear inclusive communication in the global work space.
