"For sale: baby shoes, never worn."

This is a story often attributed to Ernest Hemingway, although the link to him is unlikely. It is a story so short, yet so dense – hope, anticipation, planning, then loss, disappointment, grief. These are universally human experiences. And maybe thats what makes a good story – its universal resonance. As Niel Gaiman said, "stories are good lies that say true things."

But what is the difference between a story and a myth? Are these just synonyms for the same thing? Why does the difference matter? Is one more suited to universal truth than the other? Why should we care? What are the myths that animate our beliefs and our behaviors? Has the canon been sealed? Are our myths inherited, or can we make our own?

In this episode we speak with Alonso Toledo about mythology, the role of mythology in our lives and work, and the myths that animate us as humans.
