04: The One Things That's Needful (Part 4)

Listen Later

On today’s episode, Dr. Siohvaughn Funches delves deeper into the one thing that is needful as she continues this series. Dr. Funches wants everyone listening to this series to reap all the benefits. She invites you to listen to each episode in this series if you have not heard them. First, Dr. Funches reviews the messages from the first three parts of this podcast series, about the Old Covenant of Moses and the New Covenant of Grace in Jesus Christ that replaces the Law. She reviews in the Word of God how the Old Covenant is replaced by the New Covenant and she shares two ways God gives Christians the faith to believe. Dr. Funches reads from the Word that faith to believe comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of Christ. Next Dr. Funches explores through the Word what it means to get at the feet of Jesus and hear His Word. Dr. Funches compares the experiences of the women at the tomb, the disciples on the road to Emmaus, and the boldness of Peter and John, through the Word of God. Finally, Dr. Funches invites you, the Christian believer to see Jesus, not in flesh and bone at this time, but in hearing the Word of God. Please listen in for instruction from the Word of God.

KEY BIBLE VERSES

[6:29] Romans 10:17, NASB 17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.

[8:36] John 1:1-4, 14, NKJV 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. 14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

[10:36] Luke 24:13-27, NKJV 13 Now behold, two of them were traveling that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was seven miles from Jerusalem. 14 And they talked together of all these things which had happened. 15 So it was, while they conversed and reasoned, that Jesus Himself drew near and went with them. 16 But their eyes were restrained so that they did not know Him. 17 And He said to them, “What kind of conversation is this that you have with one another as you walk and are sad?” 18 Then the one whose name was Cleopas answered and said to Him, “Are You the only stranger in Jerusalem, and have You not known the things which happened there in these days?” 19 And He said to them, “What things?” So they said to Him, “The things concerning Jesus of Nazareth, who was a Prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people, 20 and how the chief priests and our rulers delivered Him to be condemned to death, and crucified Him. 21 But we were hoping that it was He who was going to redeem Israel. Indeed, besides all this, today is the third day since these things happened. 22 Yes, and certain women of our company, who arrived at the tomb early, astonished us. 23 When they did not find His body, they came saying that they had also seen a vision of angels who said He was alive. 24 And certain of those who were with us went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said; but Him they did not see.” 25 Then He said to them, “O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! 26 Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into His glory?” 27 And beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, He]expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.

[26:36] Luke 24:36-45, NKJV 36 Now as they said these things, Jesus Himself stood in the midst of them, and said to them, “Peace to you.” 37 But they were terrified and frightened, and supposed they had seen a spirit. 38 And He said to them, “Why are you troubled? And why do doubts arise in your hearts? 39 Behold My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself. Handle Me and see, for a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see I have.” 40 When He had said this, He showed them His hands and His feet. 41 But while they still did not believe for joy, and marveled, He said to them, “Have you any food here?” 42 So they gave Him a piece of a broiled fish and some honeycomb. 43 And He took it and ate in their presence. 44 Then He said to them, “These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me.” 45 And He opened their understanding, that they might comprehend the Scriptures.

[31:36] Romans 10:17, NASB 17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.

[33:25] Acts 4:13, 17, 19-20 NKJV 13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated and untrained men, they marveled. And they realized that they had been with Jesus. 17 But so that it spreads no further among the people, let us severely threaten them, that from now on they speak to no man in this name.” 19 But Peter and John answered and said to them, “Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you more than to God, you judge. 20 For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.”
