“Non-toxic” has become another trendy word, right up there with “organic,” “all natural,” “plant-based” and the like. These are all vitally important terms and concepts to understand and implement, but the fact that they are trendy makes it harder for some of us to actually embrace them— and makes it easier for big companies to abuse them. Just as we can’t always trust every snack label claiming “all natural” and “organic” as healthy, it can be even trickier to discern dishonest marketing practices in the realm of skincare, beauty, and cleaning products. The best things we can do to support our health, vote with our dollar, and shop non-toxic is to make our own (incredibly simple, and affordable!) and to buy from small businesses, like Ms. Fresh Organics.
Today’s guest, Jill Sheridan, M.Ed, biology started her non-toxic business in 2017 after 7 years of creating her own home and body care products for her family and friends. After her son’s bad reaction to the steroid cream he was prescribed for eczema, she took matters into her own hands (literally) to craft her highly-renowned “body buttah.” And thus, Ms. Fresh Organics was born.
A note from Jill: “I just want people to know that safe and effective choices are available at a price families can afford. I specialize in education and empowerment and I provide safe swaps. My products are made in small batches with organic, toxin-free ingredients. I love that women in science and engineering are leading the way with this movement.”
