After the sudden lockdown caused by the COVID-19 outbreak, owners of a Japanese restaurant in London were forced to close their restaurant overnight. Similarly, a yoga instructor from Preston was forced to cancel and refund for a large event. But, it doesn't just stop at physical stores and events, the pandemic meant online retailers also faced a slump, with a family-run zero-waste business stating their sales dropped 90%.

新型コロナによる緊急事態により、突如としてロンドンのとある日本食レストランが営業中止を余儀なくされていました。プレストンのあるヨガインストラクターも同じく大規模なイベントを予定していたにもかかわらず中止となり払い戻しを迫られました。店舗がある事業主やイベントばかりではありません。家族経営のゴミゼロ事業を営むオンラインの小売店ですら、パンデミックにより売り上げが90％落ち込みビジネスの低迷に喘いでいます。

It isn’t all doom and gloom, though. Thanks to several schemes such as the Corona Job Retention Scheme (CJRS), the Self-Employment Income Support Scheme (SEISS) and government-backed Coronavirus Business Loan Service, people have been able to get back on their feet and find new ways of doing business to cope with the economic effects of the virus. One of Northern Ireland’s biggest banks, Danske Bank, has been getting involved with these kinds of government schemes, providing over £200 million in business lending since March.

しかし悪いことばかりではなく、3月からCJRS、Corona Job Retention Schemeと呼ばれる雇用維持計画や、自営業者を支援するSEISS、Self-Employment Income Support Scheme、政府手動の支援Coronavirus Business Loan Service（コロナウィルス事業支援貸付サービス）も施行されており、新しい方法を模索し、新型肺炎による経済への影響を乗り越えられるように対策がなされています。北アイルランド最大の銀行、ダンスク銀行ではこれらの政府による計画を受けて、3月以降2億ポンド以上の営利貸付を提供しています。
