Amber is the Strategist, Coach, and Blogger behind Climb Out of The Cubicle. She founded the company in early 2014 after realizing that she could no longer live life trapped in a box. She couldn’t stand by knowing that her fate was wrapped up in someone else’s decisions. Instead of conforming to societal norms, she took a chance. She went against the odds to embark on a journey that has given her clarity and purpose.
In fact, her whole life’s mission has been to defy the status quo and to create life on her own terms. But, for a while, Amber felt herself slipping into a “normal” and “comfortable” life. And, she got freaked out.
Now, she's doing exactly what she's meant to be doing. She is coaching women to live an awesome life without having to to report to anyone or justify their actions.
We had a great time chatting with Amber. We have to share how we found Amber. She made this AMAZING video about one of our interview questions, #6 to be exact, "what is the best non-financial investment you've made in yourself?" After seeing the video we KNEW we had to have her on the show.
As we do every week, we start out by asking Amber what success is to her, and her answer is of course awesome! She shares that success for her used to be power suits, convertibles, working in really tall buildings and making a lot of money. But she soon realized she didn't want to wear suits, which was a smaller realization of the bigger one that she didn't really want to be in a cubicle her whole life. She talks about needing to do a lot of soul searching to redefine what success was/is to her.
We chat a bit about business cards and titles, and Amber shares this great thought: If you are lonely, bored and exhausted with your job/career/work then bragging about the words on your business card means nothing. You are so much more than what that rectangular business card says. YES!!
Amber shares how she had to be okay with her definition of success being different from that of the societal definition. She also talks about how she was never the kid that "always knew" what she wanted to do when she grew up.
We of course have a great time chatting with Amber about what her greatest non-financial investment in herself has been. The short answer is she has decided to be YES person. You have to listen to episode to find out more!
We talk about Amber's big dream coming true in November 2015: Amber is going to sell everything, move into a backpack, and travel to SE Asia to live, to learn, and to explore the world and run her business from her laptop. {to stay up to date about her journey to moving to SE Asia click here.}
Amber will also be launching an e-course in August called START A BLOG IN 15 DAYS.
