LET IT GO: A LAST MINUTE CHRISTMAS

This weeks episode Sandy and Elisabeth discuss how to make your Christmas holiday special if life has made it impossible for you to plan the holiday of your dreams.

No matter what the situation is making your holiday plans less than perfect the first thing to do is sit down and make a list to help you organize the time and resources you have left and make the most of the rest of the holiday season.

CHRISTMAS ON THE CHEAP

Food:

• Food Pantries
• Meal Plan
• Accept an invitation to dinner
• Take gifts from friends/family

Gifts:

• Minimize!! You don't have to get something for everyone
• Give letters/thanks instead of things
• Get crafty
• Give your time
• Google local toy drives/gift closets/contact local churches and charities
• Ask for help/TAKE HELP WHEN OFFERED

Experiences:

• Google local community events: Tree lightings, parades, plays, events
• Church programs, Christmas Eve Services
• Christmas music/movies
• Neighborhood Christmas lights

Christmas Day:

• Breakfast foods are cheap
• Cook once and snack all day
• Accept invitations/leftovers from friends/family

CHRISTMAS ON THE QUICK

Food:

• Help someone around you eat/Donate to a Food Pantry
• Meal Plan - don't forget breakfast and lunch
• Order online
• Have it delivered

Gifts:

• Minimize trips
• Order online
• Pay for gift wrapping (you'll thank us at 2am on Christmas Eve when you're sleeping soundly)

Experiences:

• Volunteer at your local shelter/soup kitchen
• Church programs, Christmas Eve Services
• Christmas music/movies
• Neighborhood Christmas lights

Christmas Day:

• Go out and tip well
• Cook once and snack all day

CONCLUSION

The only way to do a last minute Christmas wrong is to not let go of things that ultimately don't bring joy to you or your family.

Pick a FEW moments and BE PRESENT. Don't let your perception of the situation steal the joy from the time you have together, because in the end the things won't matter the time spent together will.

If you're doing great this holiday season and trying to figure out when to stop then quit spending money on your kids and look around for people in your community that you can be a blessing to this Christmas. Check with your church, look at Facebook, check on your friends you know have had a hard year, call your local food pantry or other local charities.
