JJ’s BIO

JJ Gonson began photographing bands in the ‘80s hardcore scene on the East Coast and later in the early ‘90s music scene in the Northwest. She is known especially for her photography of Elliott Smith, including the cover of his self-titled album and "Roman Candle." She has documented bands such as: Nirvana, the Descendants, Jane’s Addiction, Black Flag, Pussy Galore, Motorhead, and 7 Seconds. She managed Elliott Smith’s earlier band, Heatmiser and booked and managed other bands, as well, which, in addition to her time as a chef and experience catering, led her to open the music venue ONCE in Somerville, Massachusetts.
