In only 4 short years, Joel went from being £72,000 in debt, with bailiffs knocking at the door, to running a successful business which is now worth over £1,000,000. In this interview Joel tells the story of his business success running tours and events inside old prisons.
Joel was born and raised in Somerset, until recently had been a resident in Shepton Mallet for the past 10 years and prior to that only a few miles away in the Chew Valley.
Initially trained as a chef, Joel travelled the World before settling into a career within the leisure industry. During this time, he worked for a number of the local leisure operators including SCC and was part of the group that moved it into a charitable trust 1610. Prior to leaving Joel oversaw 13 gyms and fitness centres across the county.
In 2011 Joel started his first business Step Success Ltd, which built and designed online health programmes using wearable fitness devices, the first company of its kind in the UK. Boasting a client list of fortune 500 companies Step Success naturally attracted interest from competitors and partners alike. At the end of 2013 Joel made the decision to sell Step Success to a London based PLC, a company he still consults for and supports to develop their E-wellness division.
Continuing with his entrepreneurial appetite Joel went on to begin five other businesses which form 'The Campbell Group'. Now Joel heads up the group on a day to day basis, supporting, developing and expanding the businesses as well as seeking new investments and ventures.
'I am passionate about everything I do and live by the motto 'Carpe diem'. I have a young family and find most of my time is split between them and our business portfolio, although you can occasionally catch me running (wandering) around the rugby pitch for Wells RFC or Shrewsbury RFC.' - Joel Campbell (founder The Campbell Group)
