In 2015, Philip experienced a very large DVT (blood clot) in his left leg which triggered the onset of Complex Regional Pain Syndrome. Complex Regional Pain Syndrome is a rare Neurologic Disorder of the Central Nervous System. The pain is so intense is feels like being burning alive from the inside and hit with an electric cattle prod at the same time – it is nicknamed “The Suicide Disease”. The Burning Limb Foundation was borne out of our battle with this illness and a desire to help others in their own chronic illness journey.

·       Who does this illness affect? Young women especially are affected (3-4x greater than men) and many of our veterans suffer. Onset from Trauma/Viral/Bacterial etc.

·       What specifically does the Burning Limb Foundation do?  Our mission at The Burning Limb Foundation is to help our patient-partners suffering from Chronic Illness find hope and Financial assistance. We provide seed money and a fundraising platform to assist those without the financial means to seek treatment.

·       Why did you create The Burning Limb Foundation? CRPS is known as the suicide disease. Every patient we help access treatment options dramatically reduces the risk of suicide AND increases the propensity to resume a normal life.  We believe there IS a cure. We bring that hope to families.

·       How do you measure your success? 3 words – impactful, achievable, tangible. Our work impacts the entire family. Not just our patient partners – the benefits are exponential. We know results are achievable – we just provide a solution to the financial puzzle. Pain is binary - tangible results and progress are easily documented and we have seen countless recoveries from an illness the medical community tells us in incurable.

·       How can we help? Our biggest need is financial support. We have assisted over 170 families with over $750,000 in grants made and will likely pass the $1,000,000 mark in Q2.  We have 45 grant commitments through Q3.  We are conscious stewards of our donor dollars with less than a 5% overhead expense.  Demand for grants far outstrips my ability to raise money.  If you can’t contribute financially, pray for us, pray for our patient partners whose videos are on our facebook page.
