Born to a Persian father and British mother, Katayoun Dowlatshahi has a doctorate in arts & humanities and has been commissioned many times to create public art installations in England and Scotland. Here, she describes her journey as a young girl when she and her family left Iran in the summer of 1978 prior to the outbreak of the revolution there. She also talks about what it was like trying to assimilate to living in England, school-place bullying, her struggle with depression, and how art and love helped her through it. Today, her passion is to create artwork that transforms and beautifies public spaces and makes a positive difference where people live.
