Ted Husband: I'm emailing a director I've had a previous meeting with and need help figuring out the best approach.
- Stop chasing the perfect “have your cake and eat it too” scenario and pressure test every outcome before making commitments that box you in later.
- Create urgency that creates action. While you’re still excited for the opportunity, honestly share that you may become unavailable through the end of the year.
- Maintain the relationship with the person who advocates for you. Don’t make the commitment and just walk away later on.
- Be ready for the difficult choice of being honest upfront and committing to the entire season with the caveat of leaving early if the opportunity you’re interested in comes through.
- Consider committing until September with the potential of working for the rest of the season if the other opportunity does not come.
- Focus on the director’s response to your outreach to have more information that will help you figure out your next steps.
