• Don’t make the email about wanting your shot. Make it about how you help the team succeed more effectively as an editor.
• As a general advice, do not diminish the value that you bring. The more they know that you’re valuable to them as an editor, the higher the likelihood you’ll be promoted.
• Let them know of the other services and value you can provide that will help the team succeed.
• If insiders know the politics, respect their advice. But never internalize the idea that diminishing yourself is the long term strategy.
