05 Chief in the woods

Listen Later

Sometime in April (2021), I got a chance to travel upcountry with my family. This opportunity came right on time as I was in dire need of a break from work and city life. Whenever I am up there I spend a lot of time in the woods, enjoying the rustling of leaves in the trees on a breezy afternoon. On this particular afternoon, after finishing a book by James Clear, I decided to record an episode for my self-published podcast: Chief's Pod.

I am a nemophilist. The term is an obscure word that hasn't really been used for over 100 years (still don't know how I came to know of it). It means someone with love or fondness for forests, woods, or woodland scenery, or someone who often visits them – a 'haunter' of woods. Even being remotely close to a tree brings be joy and peace of mind. Despite being surrounded by trees almost all the time, it is harder to notice them when you are inside a building and hooked to all forms of electronic devices.

Now that Jayden has lifted the cessation of movement into and out of Nairobi, I am eager to go back and spend a few cool afternoons in the woods. I would encourage you to do the same but if you cannot then share a moment with me on this episode.
