Spike Lee's latest, "Da 5 Bloods" is a complete triumph that manages to depict the horrors of the Vietnam War & the African American experience in Vietnam while staying totally prescient and relevant to the injustices going on today. This movie feels like it could've been made last week. While today's episode does touch on things like Delroy Lindo's Oscar chances and where this movie stands in our Spike Lee Power Rankings, this is a much more serious episode that focuses more on things like the horrors of war and how hard this movie is to watch because of how true it is. It's not an easy watch by any means but we feel it's essential viewing and another staggering entry in Lee's filmography that may stand the test of time as one of his best.
SPOILER WARNING: After about 8 minutes we get into more spoilery topics including major plot points, character fates, and how the truth in everything makes it a much more visceral viewing experience.
Thank you for listening, we hope you enjoy and lastly, we appreciate everything that the soldiers in our military, past and present, have sacrificed and continue to sacrifice for us to be able to enjoy the freedoms we do. The issues we raise in this episode are with the military institution itself and in no way reflect how we feel about the soldiers who so bravely fight for our country.
