053: Dr. Carmen Roman: How This Immigrant Grew up With No Electricity or Running Water, Fought for her Education, and Got a Doctorate in Psychology and Founded a Non-Profit

Dr. Carmen Roman came from a poor but loving family in Mexico where they had no electricity or running water. When it was time to go to middle school, her parents expected she learn a trade to start earning an income. But, Carmen secretly applied to a middle school and only got permission to go if she also learned to become a hairdresser. Determined to continue her education, she later got her master's degree and then became a professor. After more setbacks, she returned to school yet again to get a Ph.D. Today Carmen has her own practice, founded a nonprofit, Emotions in Harmony, and a podcast with the same name.
