#053: If Beale Street Could Talk | Roma

Listen Later

Writer-director Barry Jenkins adapts James Baldwin's novel IF BEALE STREET COULD TALK, which focuses on a young couple in love and expecting a child. KiKi Layne and Stephan James star as the lovers who are torn apart when he is accused of a crime and imprisoned while their families try to prove his innocence.

Alfonso Cuarón's semi-autobiographical ROMA lovingly observes a maid who cares for a middle class family in Mexico City in the early 1970s.
