Elise Blaha Cripe is a blogger, crafter and goal setter in San Diego, California. She has been sharing thoughts and DIY projects since 2005 and running an online shop of handmade goods since 2008. Recently, Elise launched a daily planner & goal-setting workbook called Get To Work Book. Elise also hosts a weekly podcast, elise gets crafty, that focuses on handmade business, blogging, creativity and inspiration.
As I mention in my intro of this episode Elise is kind of my girl boss crush. Ask Danielle and she will confirm this, so having Elise on the show was super fun.
As we do with each guest we start out discussing what their definition of success is. Elise shares so many wonderful thoughts on what success is for her.
"That balance of being challenged by the work you are doing and being satisfied by the work you are doing."
Elise shares that this applies to not just to work, but also to relationships, parenthood, life in general!
"I don't think success is I've climbed to the top of the mountain, I did it. I think it's more as you're climbing to the top of the mountain. That's where the most reward and most satisfaction comes."
Elise also talks about the satisfaction that comes from striving towards something, a goal, a task etc.
"There is a lot of successful feelings that come from working on something."
We talk about the value of looking back and seeing how far you've come versus just focusing on how far you still have to go or what you still haven't accomplished yet.
Elise shares with us the story of not getting the desk job with a specific path just out of college and how that shaped her life. She shares how if she would have been given an offer she would have taken the more comfortable path, but clearly the universe had a different plan.
Elise studied marketing in college and shares how the marketing principles she learned in college she now gets to apply to her business today. We also talk about setting boundaries. Whether you are in a corporate job or own your own business you have to set boundaries.
Elise also shares a lot of great valuable insight about working and and being a mom. Great advice for those who work from home or outside the home. She shares how she put too much pressure on herself after her first daughter was born, how she plans to slow down when her second daughter arrives in November.
