🔥[06-17] Sharpening your resume so every line answers why it matters

Listen Later

Phil Habeger: I may be up for an Assistant Editor position on an upcoming 2nd season of a scripted show. I want to make sure that my resume is telling the right story and feel confident in sending it if I'm asked to do so.

  • If your work speaks for itself, use an experience-based resume. Otherwise, use a skills-based one.
  • In your case, go hybrid since your relevant experience shows you've solved similar problems in the past. Lead with your story and follow with curated credits proving similar problems solved.
  • Every line must answer two questions: what you've done and why they should care; anything else gets cut.
  • Spotlight premium brands first; scripted credit before unscripted to signal you already play in their league.
  • Print‑test your layout; add margins so the resume looks sharp both on paper and screen.
  • Shrink the empty space on your left column to gain more real estate for your story.
