The story follows struggling encyclopedia salesman Wadsworth Zane as he travels to the town of Broodhollow to claim an inheritance from a distant and previously unknown relative. Poor Wadsworth is plagued by phobias and superstitions, which he slowly learns may be the unlikely key to understanding the town’s disturbing supernatural events.
