061: What George Clooney Can Teach You About Raising Capital

Listen Later

We’re jumping in quick following a fun recap of the weekend Chase and Robby had. Robby spent the better part of his week in a seminar on buying multifamily properties. We’re lining up for a big week of birthday celebrations as Chase’s (soon to be) middle daughter, Violet, and Robby are celebrating next week.

Everyone should be celebrating the birthday homework Robby gave Chase; he is supposed to set up a new CESA plan (Google it if you don’t know) with Tyler Carter from NuView IRA.

We’ve got a few questions regarding dropping a 529 plan into a CESA, so there will be some updated coming in the future to answer those questions. We thought it was important to mention given how many people don’t know you can invest in real estate via college saving plans.

From there they jump right in on deal talk. The first one up is a seller finance opportunity in Marshal, TX. We’ve deftly avoided Dodd-Frank issues, thank you to the listeners for sending in emails regarding that. After going over the numbers, and the deal in Texas, they move to Georgia. A foreclosure sale on an asset in Brunswick, GA is coming up in a few days on that deal. They talk number briefly with more to come.

The last deal of the day speaks to how long a note deal can take. Robby has an asset in Indiana finally coming up for a foreclosure sale, which he has had since May of 2014. For many people that listen to the show, or are familiar with note investing, this can seem like an extremely long time.

Before they get to the Goal Setting Challenge of 2016, they move into book talk. If you follow either of them on social you know they’re reading like crazy this year. So, today they talk about fantastic business takeaways from the books they’re currently reading.

Robby discusses an outstanding book called the Obstacle Is The Way by Ryan Holiday. The reason you should read this book, taken straight from the cover of the book, is it covers the timeless art of turning trials into triumph. Chase jumps in with an amazing book about “smartcuts.” We’d go into them a bit more, but we want you to check out our upcoming book list page on the NoteMBA Homepage.

The guys have selected the challenge goal for each other for 2016, but we need your help to keep on track as well. Chase’s feet are going to be held to the fire to keep his weight under 179 pounds this year; while Robby is going to be tasked with reading 75 books throughout the year.

Catch up with us next week as we bring some more “deal” talk from our recent acquisitions.
