This week we take a deep dive into the world of mermaid work. We speak with two "real life" mermaids about what it means to shimmy into a tail and join the party. I first speak with Lily Luna who quit her job as a high school math teacher to be a professional mermaid. We talk about what got her into this work and some funny things that have happened at the mermaid parties she serves (mostly for kids). We also talk about the craftsmanship that goes into these mermaid tails and the high cost that comes with acquiring them. In the second half, I speak with Scarlett Wolf who does mermaid parties as well, but she is also involved in the mermaid pageant world. We talk about what a mermaid pageant even is and what she went through to be crowned Miss Mermaid Texas 2021. This was a fun chat about an underwater world I knew NOTHING about going into it!
