07/04/2021 Persecuted for being like Jesus [Matthew 10:24-25]

Listen Later

"A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master. It is enough for the disciple to be like his teacher, and the servant like his master." This lesson from Jesus to his 12 Apostles reminds them (and us) that the level of authority in the Christian journey is that of a teacher to a student, or a lord to a servant. A student will learn to be like the teacher, whether that teacher is good or not. As Jesus is the highest good teacher, then his disciples will learn to be like him. Yet Jesus also teaches an important lesson in that the evil in the world persecutes the good teacher, Jesus, and will likewise persecute those who are like him, his disciples. The call to preach the gospel message is never promised to be easy or comfortable. Satan (or in this passage Beelzebul) will accuse students of Jesus Christ of being students of Satan. The Accuser twists truth to his benefit, even if it means lying about a Christian disciple of Christ being a disciple or student of Beelzebul. So, watch for the attacks of Satan while living the gospel.
