"So what does that mean Buckster? Be serious, but DON'T be serious?" There's a difference between having an ego and looking at yourself in every mirror you walk by, and being serious about what you do. The way you look doesn't matter. How important you think you are doesn't matter. The task at hand, your job, what you're doing, your family, your health, those things are all important, but when you start thinking that the whole world revolves around you, that's the time to check yourself.
