David McErlain: I want to have a resumé I can start sending out that will help to get me interviews.
- Write every resume line through their lens. Frame your skills and experience as solutions to their problems.
- Reorder credits from most relevant to least relevant, cutting marketing unless it’s framed as clearly valuable to the role.
- Create a skills–experience hybrid: lead with 3–5 bullets that are gonna frame and provide value and tell the story of why the credits below are relevant.
- Remove “Assistant Editor” from every line. Place it once in the header to simplify layout and free up space.
- Reach out to current assistant editors and ask how they positioned similar experiences, and adjust so your resume resonates with decision-makers.
