08 - Do Not Receive a False(?) Report

Listen Later

The speaker and listener of Lashon Hara both violate the transgression of accepting a false report. The reason the Torah refers to the report as false even though a true report is included is because its impossible there wont be a mix of words that are not completely true. When we call attention to certain faults people have, it implies that is who he is but it doesn't give the full context which is misleading and false although it isn't a "lie" in the classical sense.

Chofetz Chaim, Introduction (Lavin)

Be'er Mayim Chaim, Lavin:2
