08 | "I'll just do it myself" is slowing down your business

Listen Later

In this Episode I share why the mindset of “I’ll just do it myself” is slowing down your business, which means it’s slowing down the clients you canattract monthly, which means its slowing down the lifestyle you can attain.

I know because the “I’ll just do it myself”was my favourite line especially when I started my business. I refused to hirea coach or any type of help because I felt like I could just do it myself. Whypay for someone to take photos of me when I can prop up my phone and do itmyself. Why pay for a stylist when I already have a classical and beautifulstyle myself. Why pay for makeup when I can swab some concealer on my facemyself. Why pay for a business coach when there’s YouTube and free courses andI can learn everything I need about business myself.

The “I can do it myself” mentally kept mestuck in producing sub-par work, with sub-par mediocre results then saying“well, all I need is time” or “this is because I’m new”.

But the lie detector determined that was alie.

And I had proof. I saw the persons who hadmentors, hired out help, and outsource the parts of their business they hatedbe able to do more in a shorter space of time than I did.

So then I asked myself why am I fightingfor this belief that “I can do it myself” and I slowly realized it stemmed fromtwo things:

1.     Scarcity and thinking that mytime resource was more abundant than my money resource

What this meant is that because I was fulltime in my business when I started, I wanted to use all my time for my businessso every second was spent doing something for the business and in my head I wassaying this is saving me money but in reality, it was also costing me money. While I could have stayed in my zone of genius and focus on the CEO activitiesthat was likely to generate income, I instead did things that I was mediocre atand produced a medicore result then I wondered why the business wasn’t growing.

2.     Hyper-independence created fromdisappointment from others

Another reason why I held this “I can do itmyself mentally” was that I hated being disappointed by others so in my head Isaid people can’t disappoint me if I don’t give them something to disappoint mefor. So why would I hire out a coach or service provider when I know they willjust disappoint me.

Then I dug a bit deeper, and realized whypeople are imperfect and flawed human beings, myself included, it’s on me toeffectively communicate what I want in a way where it’s easy for persons toimplement. This changed everything.

When I hired my first coach, I didn’t rockback and hope she knew what was in my head, instead I came to each call with agameplan as to what I wanted done.

When I hired a photographer, I came to thephotographer with a photo vision as to what I wanted so it was easy for them toimplement on a high standard.

When I hired a stylist, I came to thestylist with inspo pictures and a clear way in which I wanted to be portrayedso the stylist can take it and run with it.

I stopped believing that hiring someonemeant they can now read my mind and instead I went in each relationship withclarity as to what’s in my mind and what I want to be done.

I’ll keep it real with you and let youknow, you need to let go of the I’ll just do it myself mindset when it comes toyour content and be willing to outsource the parts of it that you hate or simpledon’t want to do.

For many of you, that’s the strategizing, the video recording, the video editing, the caption writing – these are allthings that I provide inside of my Content Retainer Service.
