Anne Holme, a danish author, wrote what I consider to be one of the best books to introduce the uncomfortable subject of our own propensity for malevolence. It is very appropriate for children and has many inspiring moments, but It forces the thoughtful reader to consider themselves not as the heroic individual who opposed evil at any cost, but as a likely agent of evil in a dark and tragic world.
Fortunately the book doesn't leave you there. It unequivocally suggests that it is the full exercise of your individuality which guards against your propensity for malevolence.
If you can locate the book, read it. If not enjoy this low quality audio version I have recorded for you.
