087: [Soulpreneur 411] Addressing the biggest struggle for mompreneurs

Listen Later

Welcome to our new Soulpreneur 411 series — where I answer your questions about building a business that serves your whole life. Today we’re tackling the age-old struggle for women entrepreneurs: How do we find time to get our businesses off the ground while tending to all of the other invisible labor that so many women do every week?

This week’s question comes from Ana, who is a student in our 6FBA program.

She says: I've been trying to get my blog business off the ground. And I've been struggling to figure out how to have the flexibility to be a good mom, and also give enough time to the blog business. My business is honestly something I love. How do I make it possible to hold both of these things?

First off, you can probably feel all the heads nodding in agreement. I don't know any mompreneurs who haven't wrestled with this push-pull.

Frankly, the reality of invisible labor is something almost all women have to deal with, even if they don't have kids. But it can really get amplified when you have children.

So in today’s episode, I’ll address this great question in two parts:

  • The importance of treating your business like a business, and
  • The importance of getting the support you need as a woman in business

This is a really rich topic, and I’m so glad we get a chance to talk about this subject honestly.

What you’ll learn in this episode:

  • What it means to treat your business like a business
  • The huge misconception we have about starting online businesses
  • Why you should invest in your business before you’re making money
  • Why we have to let go of the myth of “doing it all”
  • How getting support can be a total game-changer
