Kane Christensen is a spider enthusiast and former head of spiders at the Australian Reptile Park.

While working at the park he discovered a new species of funnel web spider in the Newcastle area of New South Wales, Australia. 

In recognition of this discovery and his significant work on spiders, the Australian Museum recommended that the Newcastle Funnel Web spider be named after him.
