Welcome to our new Soulpreneur 411 series — where I answer your questions about building a business that serves your whole life. Today we're taking an honest look at something that a lot of entrepreneurs naturally struggle with. We love novelty and new challenges. It's normal to feel bored with work sometimes. How should we handle it?
This week’s question comes from Jessica Cha of Basic Sunday.
She wants to know: Do you ever get tired or even bored from the projects that you work on? And if so, what do you do to get out of it and refresh yourself?
I love this question so much. As entrepreneurs, it's almost part of our DNA that we get bored easily. We choose this life in large part because of the variety and the creative control we have over our working hours.
So the bright side of this tendency is that we're insatiably curious. The downside is that we can get so hungry for novelty that we can find it hard to keep up the energy to see things through. Or we finish something and then don't quite know what to do next.
I think it’s valuable to be able to look at our boredom and ask what it’s trying to tell us. Do we need to let go of something? Is it time for a new chapter? Do we actually need to just take care of ourselves better? And do we maybe need to re-frame our assumptions about what our businesses are supposed to provide for us?
