09: Overcoming Self Consciousness In The Moments That Matter

In this week’s episode I give you a really easy to follow process to handle self consciousness and why handling this can help with also overcoming comfort eating/drinking or lifestyle choices that are keeping you stuck too. There were a couple of Mic drop outs but hopefully it doesn’t effect your listening experience

I remember times when it would take me 3-4 hours to get dressed because I’d get stuck in a negative thought cycle about my body. So too in those moments that matter and self consciousness starts to take over. On reflection after recording this episode I think there is an element of self judgement in self consciousness - that inner critic gets super loud so if you haven’t already you might benefit from listening to episode 4: Quietening Down Your Inner Critic https://open.spotify.com/episode/20KPpmkOf0LAUjAJNb68OH?si=d729328990684edc. It can be useful to identity whose voice you are hearing too - yours, a family member’s, a bully (from work or school) society’s?

  • How it can highlight your inner narrative about yourself - clock the moments you put yourself down or bring self consciousness into your experience of your day based on how you judge or size yourself up compared to others
  • What is TRUE about what you’re telling yourself? Challenge all the thoughts that come in to ensure you’re not unintentionally setting yourself up for failure :-)
  • Your self consciousness suggests something isn’t right about you - this is based on your perception of yourself. Give yourself permission to accept yourself right now, wherever you are
