In a puzzling parable in Luke 16:1-13, Jesus seems to lift up a scheming, streetwise manager as a paradigm for successful living. But then Jesus shifts gears. Followers of Jesus must choose to serve either God or Mammon, they can’t split allegiance. Why? Because the ways of God demand a different ethic than the ways of a world revolving around money.
