09/18/2022 "It Was Not So From the Beginning: Jesus on Divorce" [Matthew 19:1-9]
This passage reminds us of a teaching on divorce that Jesus gave in the Sermon on the Mount, Matthew 5:31-32 I originally preached on those verses on Aug 30, 2020
So I do not want to repeat too much of that sermon today. If you wish to learn more on the various passages of Scripture concerning divorce and the traditional interpretations then I wish to direct you to the Sermon Audio archive on our church website or even in podcast archives in Apple, Google, Spotify, and other podcast sources.
Today, I wish to focus on the words of Jesus in his response to the Pharisees' question,
"Is it lawful to divorce one's wife for any cause?" (Matt 19:3)
Jesus said to them 'Because of your hardness of heart Moses allowed you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so," (Matt 19:8)
So as we seek the Lord's voice through this passage today, I think the point in this lesson from Jesus is on the origin of Marriage, relationship between men and women, as HE created it . .. as HE intended it.
