Picture this: it's around 1050 BCE, and the ancient world is in the midst of major upheaval. We're in the Early Iron Age now, a few generations after what scholars call the Late Bronze Age collapse that had shattered the great empires. The Israelites are fighting for their very survival in this new world order. They're not yet the unified kingdom they'll become under David – instead, they're just a loose collection of tribes trying to make it in a land filled with enemies who have better weapons, better organization, and frankly, better odds of winning any fight.
