We talk about what point of view is and ways to think of it. It’s more than just the pronoun use of it. But it’s also how you tell the story.
It’s the filter through which you tell your story, and determines the voice and tone you use.
One of the biggest mistakes she sees with newer writers is when the point of view slips, otherwise known as head hopping. When we do this, we run the risk of alienating our readers.
Traci then goes on to go through the different points of view, with examples of how they are used, and why the writers made that choice.
One of the things Traci loves about writing is the puzzle of making all the pieces fit together in a compelling way!
We also touch upon narrative distance, the space between the telling of the story and the events of the story. Are they happening side by side, or did the events happen last week?
We finish our conversation with finding out what Traci was working on at the time.
