Turning Readers Into Writers

096 - Cost effective editing with Stacy Juba

Listen Later

Stacy will take you through the different types of edits available to writers - structural/developmental, copy and line edits.

Stacy focuses on the structural/developmental edit which is the big picture edit. It makes sure that the overarching storyline and character arc works and has a smooth cause and effect trajectory.

After editing many manuscripts, Stacy noticed that new writers struggle with the same problems. Writers were hiring her too early. What her clients needed to do was learn how to make their manuscript the best they could by themselves, before hiring a professional.

From that observation came Stacy’s Book Editing Blueprint. This is a comprehensive course that teaches new writers how to improve their manuscript on their own so they’re not sending a first draft to an editor, but a much more advanced draft.

This applies to traditionally published authors as well indie authors.

The course takes you through the big picture edits of plot, characters, POV and dialogue. She then takes you through how to do a line edit and a copy edit.

I’ve been through the programme and the Book Editing Blueprint is a resource all writers should have in their toolkit.

Stacy talks too about the importance of having a strong blub/jacket copy. When this is strong and concise, it shows the editor (or agent) that you know exactly what happens in your story and understand it’s overarching premise.

She gives examples of what works and what doesn’t!
