Betsy Ross, born Elizabeth Griscom in 1752, was an American seamstress known for her reputed role in creating the first American flag. She married three times and was expelled from the Quaker community for marrying outside the faith. Despite debate about her involvement, she remains an enduring symbol of American patriotism.
