1 Corinthians 5 & 6

Welcome to The Safe Space!

In the midst of Paul’s letter to the believers in the Corinthian church, his tone is both sharp and compassionate—confronting their misplaced confidence while inviting them to lay aside pride, embrace unity, and discover a deeper, Spirit-led wisdom from God.

But Paul does not hold back. He condemns their spiritual pride, expressing shock at what he has heard: a report of sexual immorality so severe that a man is living in sin with his stepmother. And instead of mourning, they are proud. Paul calls them to respond rightly—to grieve, to act, and to remove this man from their fellowship.

Though absent in body, Paul reminds them he is present in spirit. With the authority of the Lord Jesus, he has already passed judgment. The church must gather, recognizing both his presence in spirit and the power of Christ among them.

Their boasting, he warns, is dangerous. Sin is like yeast—it spreads. What seems small can corrupt the whole. They must remove the old “yeast” so they can become what they truly are: a people made new. For Christ, our Passover Lamb, has been sacrificed. Now is the time to live in sincerity and truth.

Paul clarifies his earlier instruction—not to withdraw from the world entirely, but to be discerning within the church. Those who claim to follow Christ yet continue in unrepentant sin must be confronted. “Remove the evil person from among you,” he urges.

He then turns to another failure within the church: believers taking one another to court. Instead of resolving disputes within the body, they are exposing their divisions before the world. Paul challenges them—why not accept wrong? Why not endure loss rather than damage the witness of the church? Even these disputes, he says, reveal defeat.

With urgency, he reminds them of the weight of unrighteous living. Those who persist in sin will not inherit the Kingdom of God. Yet there is hope woven into his warning: this is not who they are anymore. They have been cleansed, made holy, made right with God through Jesus Christ and by the Spirit.

Paul presses deeper, calling them to see themselves rightly. Their bodies are not their own—they are members of Christ. To join themselves to sin is to dishonor that union. “Run from sexual sin,” he urges, for it strikes at the very body that now belongs to God.

And then, a powerful truth: their bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who lives within them. They were bought with a price.

So now, there is only one response:

Honor God with your body.

Verse of the Day: Jeremiah 31:13

"The young women will dance for joy, and the men - old and young - will join in the celebration. I will turn their mourning into joy. I will comfort them and exchange their sorrow for rejoicing."

Question of the Day:

Do you have an opportunity to dance and be glad today?
