1 Corinthians 6 Discussion

You can feel the tension in 1 Corinthians 6 because Paul won’t let the church hide behind excuses. We talk about why it’s spiritually backwards for believers to drag each other into secular court, and why Paul would rather see a Christian accept loss than broadcast division. That includes a gut-check line we can’t stop thinking about: we’re told God’s people will one day judge the world and even judge angels, so why can’t we sort out “small” disputes with humility and wisdom right now?

Then the passage turns to a list of sins that should make all of us pause, not to trigger panic, but to clarify what a life headed toward the kingdom actually looks like. The hope hits in one sentence: “Such were some of you.” We slow down on what it means to be washed, sanctified, and justified in Jesus, and we talk about the difference between someone who stumbles and repents versus someone who shrugs and chooses darkness on purpose.

We also dig into Paul’s warning about sexual immorality, why he treats it as uniquely destructive, and what it means to flee rather than flirt with the edge. We connect porneia to the Old Testament holiness codes, address common arguments about Leviticus, and bring it back to the heart of Christian ethics: your body is not your own, you were bought with a price, and the Holy Spirit dwells in you.
