1 Corinthians Series               Love is the Key  Introduction:Have you ever been in a place where you feel completely and utterly losr? Have you ever just walked into a place and said. No, I don’t want to be here…That happened to a good friend of mine a few years ago. When me and Beth were getting married were looking for suits for the wedding, as you do. One of the groomsmen men and Beth and myself  went around Edmonton on a Saturday to find the kind of suits that would fit for the wedding. One of the places we stopped is this shop called David’s bridal. It’s mostly a wedding dress store but they have a small selection of men’s suits. So we went there to take a look. Man, that was a poor decision for my friend. We got in there and my groomsmen just was overwhelmed. Just imagine. It’s this innocent enough looking store. About the size of an Old Navy.  You walk in and it’s just utter chaos. There are women screaming across the store, there are women crying there are women running all over the place like the world is on fire. If there was an order to this place there is no way in a million years that me and my groomsmen are going to find it. This place makes no sense. We felt uncomfortable, lost and like we would rather be anywhere else. As we continue working our way though the story of 1 Corinthians. I imagine that awful wedding store what the worship services in Corinth were like. Just imagine people all over the home. Everyone is praying, prophesying and speaking in tongues. It’s utter chaos. Everyone is speaking over one another, loader and loader. People are bickering. They are annoyed with each other. If you walked in for the first time the Corinthian worship would have seemed like madness.Worship in Corinth was disordered and messy. In 1 Corinthians 12-14 Paul works to set the Church straight on what is important in worship. Paul wants the church to worship, to praise god in a way that is not only effective but also useful.Section 1: Spiritual Gifts require a diversity (What are gifts)Like usual, there were factions in Corinth. This time centred around the idea of spiritual gifts. and There were factions around two spiritual gifts in particular The first were those who thought that speaking in tongues was the most important thing. Tongues is complicated but simply put tongues is the ability to pray with the help of the holy Spirit. Speaking in tongues sounds like gibberish, like non-sense and If you’ve never heard it before it can seem strange. The best way I can explain it is that tongues is the ability to pray with your walls down. If your like me, when you pray its hard. It’s so easy to get distracted or start asking god for things you don’t really need or to just not feel like God is listening. Tongues is learn to pray with those walls down. To let our spirits talks directly to god. I wish I had time to get into it today. Tongues is weird, awesome and worth pursing. Meanwhile the other camp was of the opinion the prophecy was the most important. Most people have heard the word prophecy. Prophecy is getting a message from god and sharing it with people. When people say real prophecies its unreal. In Corinth people were arguing about which was more useful tongues or prophecy. Each group wanted the other to stop speaking during the worship time. It was chaos. Starting in chapter 12, Paul addresses this issue. probably in a way that no one is really happy with. “Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; 5 and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; 6 and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. 7 To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.” Instead of siding completely with one or another Paul says that their are many gift and that all of them are good for the “common good” But here’s the question what are Spiritual Gift
