Paul reminds the believers of the Good News that changed everything—the message they first received and the truth on which they still stand. Christ died for our sins, was buried, and rose again, just as the Scriptures foretold. Though Paul once persecuted the church and considered himself the least of the apostles, he now declares that everything he has become is because of the grace of God working through him.
Then Paul turns to the question at the very heart of the Christian faith: if Christ has been raised from the dead, how can anyone say there is no resurrection? If there is no resurrection, then Christ himself was never raised. Faith is empty. Preaching is meaningless. Sin still has its hold, and death still has the final word.
But Paul answers with certainty and hope: Christ has been raised. He is the first of all who will rise. Just as death came through Adam, new life comes through Christ. One day, all who belong to him will be raised, and even death itself—the last enemy—will be destroyed.
Paul paints a powerful picture of that coming resurrection. Just as a seed is planted before it becomes something new, our earthly bodies will one day be transformed. What is buried in weakness will be raised in strength. What is buried in brokenness will be raised in glory. Our natural bodies will become spiritual bodies, made like Christ himself.
Then Paul reveals a mystery: not everyone will die, but everyone who belongs to Christ will be changed. In a moment, in the blink of an eye, at the sound of the final trumpet, the dead will be raised, and those still living will be transformed. Mortality will put on immortality. Death will lose its sting. Through Jesus Christ, victory over sin and death will be complete.
Because of this hope, Paul urges believers to stand firm, be courageous, and never give up, for nothing done for the Lord is ever wasted.
In his closing words, Paul speaks of an offering for the believers in Jerusalem, his plans to visit after traveling through Macedonia, and the work waiting for him in Ephesus. Yet even here, his message remains the same: be watchful, stand firm in the faith, be strong, and let the grace of the Lord Jesus remain with you always.
Verse of the Day: Proverbs 12:20
Deceit fills hearts that are plotting evil; joy fills hearts that are planning peace!
Action of the Day:
Don't be a hoarder of evil thoughts! Throw them out before they up any space in your heart.
