Marcus de Lontra Costa nasceu no Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro, Brasil, em 1954. Foi editor e escritor da Revista Módulo entre 1975 e 1983. Dirigiu a Escola de Artes Visuais do Parque Lage entre 1983 e 1987. Criou e dirigiu o Museu de Arte Moderna de Brasília (1990) e o Museu de Arte Moderna Aloísio Magalhães, em Recife (1997-2000). Dirigiu o Museu de Arte Moderna do Rio de Janeiro (1990-1997). Foi Secretário de Cultura de Nova Iguaçu (2006-2008). Curador de centenas de exposições no Brasil e exterior. Atualmente é curador do Prêmio Indústria Brasileira Marcantônio Vilaça SESI/CNI.
