Episode Summary:
"If you're gonna be dumb, you gotta be tough. And then you go running."
This is the mantra of today's Danish guest, Peter, whom Katie crossed paths with at a run in Croatia. Like many avid runners, Peter started out simply wanting to improve his health, coupled with a love for travel. After a few suggestions by friends to do a half-marathon, Peter took the plunge and never looked back. He says that running is his version of yoga as it helps him develop mindfulness.
Peter speaks on his experiences as a runner, from his first marathon with White Nights in St. Petersburg, Russia, to races held in his hometown of Copenhagen—which includes the famous "Royal Run" started by the Crown Prince of Denmark.
Recently, Peter began a project which came not just out of his passion for running, but also out of his passion for wine. Meeting every second Saturday, his group either runs 5k or walks 2.5k, followed by a wine session.
A lot of runners like to indulge after a workout. Speaking on the best post-running foods to eat in Denmark, Peter suggests visiting food markets and trying rye bread with pickled herring—a local specialty best paired with an ice-cold beer. He recommends stopping by the market in Copenhagen's famous Nyhavn district.
Still on the topic of must-dos in Denmark, Peter speaks about Roskilde music festival, where one can enjoy performances by both big and up-and-coming bands covering a variety of genres. The Roskilde Festival also so happens to have a Naked Run as well. (Peter claims he did not participate;)
