Is the favorite legit?

This is the most important question we have to ask ourselves each race we handicap.

Why?

If the favorite is legit, you more than likely are looking at a low priced winner. If the favorite is vulnerable, then we know we have options and can eliminate them from our wagering.

Passing on races with legit favorites is the quickest way to build your bankroll. We are going to be more picky with our wagering. No longer are we going to look at a race and go against the favorite for no reason.

You have to remember, it is very hard to make money playing legit favorites and it is even harder betting against them because they often win the races they should.

Evaluating the favorite is a handicapping issue that ties into our wagering. We will talk about some of my favorite angles for looking for vulnerable favorites too.
