Walking in Truth || The book of 1 John || It’s been said that the Gospel of John was written to ‘convert sinners’, while his three epistles were written to ‘confirm the saints’. John was writing to a church troubled by false teachers emphasizing experience over doctrine. So John, a caring shepherd, and loving spiritual father wrote to his ‘dear children and friends’, exhorting them to continue walking in the truth that he, and others, have proclaimed to them. In this opening sermon to this series we are reminded that through Jesus we have fellowship (koinonia) with God and each other, and our koinonia serves as a witness to the redemptive power of God to the world around us.
